About

Currently based in Western Massachusetts and Queens, Hindquarters began in 2012 when Elliot Hartmann-Russell met Isaac Pearl through a mutual friend while hitchhiking through Portland, OR. Inspired by their mutual interest in pop music of the 1960s and 70s, the pair wrote and recorded a song in a single night before Elliot returned to his journey across the country, a ritual they would complete every time they happened to meet in person over the next few years. Each of their past recording sessions lies somewhere between a landmark and a tattoo, marking the passage of time, and their shared musical maturation. Songs In The Night represents the transformation of a musical friendship from an archive of spontaneous, bare-bones recordings into a fully-realized musical statement, with lush vocal harmonies, full string/horn arrangements, and lyrics exploring the ephemeral nature of life. Ultimately uplifting and moving, Songs In the Night’s retro pop sensibilities, DIY work ethic, and internet-proof sincerity represents a musical cairn and emotional shelter for its listeners to let them know that for now, it’s okay to take a break from their life’s journey to rest and reflect. :)
